Most bodyshops buy thinner by the 25 litre container and reorder when it runs low. A full pallet is a different kind of purchase — not a bigger version of the same order, but a genuinely different commitment, in storage, delivery and how it actually gets used up. It's easy to think about the volume and skip past the parts that only matter once the pallet is actually sitting in your workshop. Here's what's actually involved before it makes sense.
What's actually on the pallet
Our Standard Cellulose Clear Thinner full pallet is 36 × 25L containers, 900 litres total, supplied as one trade pallet. It's suitable for thinning compatible cellulose-based paints and coatings to spray viscosity, and for cleaning spray guns and equipment afterwards — the same jobs a single container does, just at a scale built for continuous throughput rather than one job at a time.
The practical side that's easy to overlook
900 litres of a highly flammable solvent-based product isn't a shelf item. A few things worth working out before ordering rather than after it arrives:
- Storage — a full pallet needs proper flammable-liquid storage, ventilated and away from heat, sparks and ignition sources, not a corner of the workshop.
- Delivery — due to the size and nature of the product, specialist pallet and hazardous-goods delivery requirements can apply, which is worth confirming before you commit to a date.
- Handling — moving and dispensing from 25L containers at this volume means proper PPE and ventilation every time, not just for the first can.
None of this is a reason not to buy in bulk — it's simply what "in bulk" actually means for a product like this, and it's better worked out at order time than on the day it turns up.
Who a full pallet actually makes sense for
This is a genuinely high-volume purchase — a bodyshop or paint shop getting through cellulose thinner constantly, where reordering single containers every week or two has become its own overhead: another delivery to receive, another invoice to process, another gap in stock if the order's late. A pallet turns that into one delivery and one order to manage for months. If that's not your volume yet, though, a pallet sitting mostly full for months isn't saving anything; it's just 900 litres of flammable liquid taking up space you could use for something else, ageing on the shelf rather than being worked through.
If you're not there yet
For everyday use, a single container is the sensible starting point. Worth being clear that our Standard Thinner 400 25L is a separate automotive-grade product line rather than a smaller pack of the same cellulose thinner — check which is actually compatible with the paint system you're running before ordering either one. If you're not sure which fits your setup, or where the line is between "order the single container" and "order the pallet" for your volume, get in touch through an ATC trade account and we can talk it through rather than guess.
